Hey guys! Just a quick update... This week I was introduced to an animation creator named, "Powtoon" and I absolutely love it. This animation creator will be the slide show I will now use to sell my genius project pitch to my peers in class. By having this tool in my back pocket, this will now allow me to not worry about the presentation and just focus on writing my pitch, which I already have started. I believe I'm making solid progress towards my goal of completing my genius project very fluently. My mentors and I are already in conversation of when the event when happening and we also agreed where the event can take place at the Calavera Recreational Center in Carlsbad. It's about a 2-minute drive from my high school. My timeline is looking clear as day and I am now in the position to figuratively walk towards the finish line. I still need to clean up some ends such as finishing up my website and marketing my event but for the most part, I like where I am in my project. My projected end date is sometime in August or September as that is when school will start up again and I have the whole summer to get everything ready. As far as my pitch goes, I will be piggy-backing on the powtoon I have already created. Using the powtoon as a foundation, I need to add slides and add my actual pitch to the animation. I also need to finish the script, but this is all small things that aren't too big of a worry for me.

Yesterday I finished up a "Problem Solving Simulation" in class which had me asking questions of the difficulties I could potentially have with my genius project. The simulation at first gave me different situations to solve such as planning a child's birthday party with specific requirements and constraints. The simulation was then applied to my genius project and I was tasked with researching potential problems that could arise. After the simulation was completed, I considered the questions that follow: 1) What if there isn't a big turnout of children? 2) What if can't find sufficient help for the camp? 3) What if I can't find a date that I can use Calavera for? 4) Do I have to fund raise for any costs? These questions are the major problems that could arise but they all can be easily fixed. To ensure a big turnout of children, I'm going to talk to my mentors about them spreading the word of my camp to their contacts as well as me contact local schools in my area. To ensure I receive enough help for the camp, I am considering asking a few of my buddies to aid me in training the children. The date of the camp shouldn't be problem at all as I am planning a meeting with my mentors to talk over when the gym is open. Lastly, I believe I can do this cost-free. The only expense I can think of is having to rent the gym out for a few hours. The next time I talk to my mentors, I will also bring up these questions to see what they have in mind as well. As of right now I am entirely confident my project can be completed.
Hey guys, CJ here! Looks like I have finally came off cloud nine and back down to reality. Today marks the day that I formally asked two individuals to be my mentor in my quest to complete my genius project. I know them very well as they are my bosses ironically. I chose them because they obtain the perfect set of skills to aid me tremendously. I conversed with them about idea of the tournament to see what they thought about it and they had some demoralizing but, very helpful information in regards to my tournament. We came to the conclusion that I don't have the time and resources to put on the tournament at my deadline of the beginning of the next school year. However there's no need to fear as my peers and I have found another idea that has a significant better chance of being a success. sticking with the same topic of children and basketball, I have decided that I will train the children instead of having a giant tournament. Don't get me wrong, I still strongly love the idea of the tournament, but it's just a little out of my grasp as a junior in high school. I don't have the networking and funding to pull it off. The name of it is in still in the works, but for now I chosen to call it "Passion for the Game". I believe it's a good starter name for the program as it's bold enough to entice children to com out and want to get better and most importantly have fun. I have come to find out that even though I'm not able to do my original idea, it was merely a stepping stone in the adventure of genius project.
